In Tanzania, every 26th of April is Union Day to commemorate the creation of United Republic Tanzania through the union of Tanganyika and the offshore island nation of Zanzibar on 26th April 1964. The founders mixed soil from the two countries symbolizing their union. Since then 26th of April has become known as Union Day to Tanzanians and is celebrated with parades, political speeches and cultural events.
As an ESBN, we celebrate this day in accordance with policies, rules and regulations of the Government of United Republic of Tanzania.
